Had I but known our paths would soon diverge,

I would not have clung so tightly to this verge.

I would have told my heart we were not meant to be,

And let you go so easily.

Though memories linger, etched upon my soul,

Who could love you as I do, make you whole?

Yet you depart, and leave me here to weep,

While I, so foolish, cannot fall asleep.

Oh, had you told me ere you went away,

I might have found some solace in the day.

This aching heart, this loneliness I bear,

I wish we'd never met, to spare this despair.

I'll tell myself it's over, I'll be strong,

But still, my heart will echo with this wrong.

I turn away, and silently I cry,

If only I could learn to say goodbye.
